Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Geale fought each other on July 26, 2014, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Golovkin was the WBA (Super) and IBO middleweight champion at the time, while Geale was the IBF middleweight champion. The fight was heavily in Golovkin’s favor from the beginning, with Golovkin putting Geale down in the second round with a powerful right hand. Although Geale was able to get back up, he was unable to recover and was subsequently knocked down again in the third round. Referee Michael Ortega stopped the fight at the 2:47 mark of the round, awarding the victory to Golovkin via technical knockout. The fight was seen as another dominant performance from Golovkin, who had been making a name for himself as one of the most fearsome punchers in boxing at the time. Geale, meanwhile, suffered his third career defeat but went on to have several more fights before retiring in 2019 with a record of 34 wins, 5 losses, and 1 draw.
