Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Geale fought each other on July 26, 2014, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Golovkin was the WBA (Super) and IBO middleweight champion at the time, while Geale was the IBF middleweight champion. The fight was heavily in Golovkin’s favor from the beginning, with Golovkin putting Geale down in the second round with a powerful right hand. Although Geale was able to get back up, he was unable to recover and was subsequently knocked down again in the third round. Referee Michael Ortega stopped the fight at the 2:47 mark of the round, awarding the victory to Golovkin via technical knockout.
